Most Muslims Cannot Face Mecca To Pray

MOST MUSLIMS CANNOT FACE MECCA TO PRAY

Muslims world-wide are commanded to pray facing Mecca. This is one of the most illogical Islamic rituals that is still being practiced by Muslims in this age of scientific enlightenment. Let us explain what we mean by this. The majority of the Muslims cannot and will not face Mecca even when they strictly observe the direction of the Qiblah (Kiblah) during their prayers. The term Qiblah simply refers to the prayer direction of the Muslims which is the Ka’ba in Mecca. This article will provide evidences to prove why the majority of the Muslims will be unable to do so. The command for Muslims to pray towards Mecca is revealed in the following Qur’anic verses:

Surah 2:50: “And from wheresoever you start forth for prayers, turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah), and wheresoever you are, turn your faces towards, it when you pray.” (Hilali-Khan)

Surah 2:144: “We have seen the turning of thy face to heaven (for guidance, O Muhammad). And now verily We shall make thee turn (in prayer) toward a Qiblah which is dear to thee. So turn thy face toward the Inviolable Place of Worship, and ye (O Muslims), wheresoever ye may be, turn your faces (when ye pray) toward it.” (Pickthall)

While standing upright, the Muslims of the world who are further away from Mecca will not be able to face the Ka’ba while praying. While standing erect, the line of sight of any person will be projected towards outer space. This line of sight is a tangent to the earth, which is a sphere. Since Allah believed erroneously that the earth is flat, he made it mandatory for every Muslims to face Mecca while praying:

Surah 20:53: “He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out. (Yusuf Ali)

Surah 15:19: “And the earth We have spread out like a carpet.” (Yusuf Ali)

Tafsir al-Jalalayn (Surah 15:19):

And the earth We have stretched it out, spread it flat, and cast therein firm mountains, lest it should sway beneath its inhabitants, and caused to grow therein every kind of balanced thing, [every kind of thing] known and determined.

Since the vast majority of Muslims of the world will only be facing outer space when they follow the direction of the Qiblah, how can Allah then command Muslims “wheresoever” they are on this spherical earth to face Mecca? The fact is only those living near Mecca can face the Ka’ba while praying.

For Muslims who are located on the opposite side of the world from Mecca, their Qiblah would be directly down towards the ground if they want to face Mecca. For example, people in Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean will have to pray vertically downward to the center of the earth because Solomon Islands is about exactly on the other side of the earth from Mecca. In view of the global shape of the earth, a Muslim’s attempt to face Mecca from this part of the world–in the prescribed Islamic way–would be futile because he will be facing the sky and not Mecca.

Let us now analyze this issue from another angle. Let us take the example of a Muslim praying from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean which is on the other side of the earth from Mecca. As stated above, he will be facing outer space and not Mecca when he follows the direction of the Qiblah. For the sake of enlightenment, let’s give the Muslim some allowance. Even if we were to allow his vision to curve along with the contour of the earth, the result will still be damaging for Islam. You will be surprised to learn that he will now be able to face any direction and still be facing Mecca. This is especially true for the Muslims who live on the opposite side of the globe from Mecca. They can pray even in opposing directions and still face Mecca. This will therefore make the Qiblah absolutely meaningless for them. Unbelievable?

Try a little experiment. Take a ball or any spherically-shaped object. Draw point “A” on the ball and point “B” on the opposite side. Now, see how many lines you can draw connecting point “A” to point “B” on the ball. The result will be many, many lines. The earth is the ball. Point “A” would be Mecca and Point “B” is the Muslim who lives on the other side of the world. The Muslim at Point “B” can look in any direction and still face Mecca since the earth is a globe. If you are on the opposite of the earth from the Ka’ba in Mecca, you can pray in any direction. You can pray face to face with the man in front of you and you will still be facing Mecca.

According to Islam, it would be sacrilegious for a Muslim to pray with his back towards Mecca. From a flat-earth perspective, this would make sense. But being on a spherical globe, whenever a Muslim prays facing Mecca, he will without fail have his back towards Mecca at the same time. This will be especially true if he is living on the other side of the earth. Since Muslims are not allowed to answer the call of nature by either facing or turning their backs towards Mecca, how can they in reality avoid doing so in view of the global shape of the earth?

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 8, Hadith Number 388:

Narrated By Abu Aiyub Al-Ansari: The Prophet said, “While defecating, neither face nor turn your back to the Qibla but face either east or west.” Abu Aiyub added. “When we arrived in Sham we came across some lavatories facing the Qibla; therefore we turned ourselves while using them and asked for Allah’s forgiveness.”

Sahih Muslim, Book 002, Number 0507:

Abu Ayyub reported: The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Whenever you go to the desert, neither turn your face nor turn your back towards the Qibla while answering the call of nature, but face towards the east or the west.

The facts provided here are so obvious and does not require much thinking but Allah seems to be ignorant of this simple basic truth. The reason for this is apparent. Allah and Muhammad does not have a clue about the shape of the earth. Allah must have thought the earth is flat. Otherwise, he would not have commanded Muslims around the world to face a specific direction while praying. The blind faith of the Muslims prevents them from admitting and acknowledging this scientific error in the Qur’an. However the true Creator is not ignorant of the shape of the earth. Centuries before the Qur’an even came into existence, the Holy Bible accurately revealed the following truth:

Isaiah 40:22: There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth.

Having clarified why the majority of the Muslims cannot face Mecca while praying, let us now consider another serious error in the Qur’an regarding the Qiblah.

QIBLAH OF THE CHRISTIANS?

All too often we find Muslims falsely claiming that the Bible is no longer the authentic Word of God. They claim that the Qur’an was sent to replace the Bible. However, at the same instant they appeal to the Bible to authenticate the prophethood of Muhammad. They claim that the coming of Muhammad is prophesied in the Bible. Consequently, Muslims have to now juggle between the claim of corruption and the claim of authenticity of the verses that supposedly prophesied the coming of Muhammad. Therefore, to reconcile these conflicting views, Muslim apologists came up with an ingenious plan. They claim that only parts of the Bible which agrees with the Qur’an should be accepted as authentic. And where there are discrepancies between the Bible and the Qur’an, the Bible should be rejected in favor of the Qur’an.

While we are happy to acknowledge that there are major differences between the teachings of the Bible and the Qur’an, we do not agree with their argument that the Qur’an should have precedence in areas where it differs from the Bible. We will now show these Muslim apologists the error of their ways. We will use a single Qur’anic verse to demonstrate why it is erroneous for the Qur’an to have priority over the Bible in areas where they differ. Let us now look at a Qur’anic verse which assumes that the following practice is observed by Christians. Two different translations are provided below:

Surah 2:145: “Even if thou were to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs together, they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other’s Qibla.” (Yusuf Ali)

The people of the Book will surely not adopt or honor your ‘Qibla’ even if you brought them all the signs. You are not going to adopt their ‘Qibla’ either. Nor do they, (the Christians and the Jews), adopt each other’s ‘Qibla.’ (Munir Munshey)

After stating that the “people of the Book” (Jews and Christians) will not follow the Qiblah of the Muslims, the Qur’an then goes on to state, “nor will they follow each other’s Qiblah.” This is indeed a gross error in the Qur’an. Christians never had a Qiblah. They never had a specific direction to face while praying. So, how can the Qur’an then tell that the Jews will not follow the Qiblah of the Christians and vice-versa? It is a well-known historical fact that Christians never had a Qiblah. Even ordinary Muslims are aware of this fact. In the entire Christian Scriptures there is not even a slightest hint of a Qiblah for Christians. This is an obvious error in the Qur’an. As such, Allah could not be the source behind the inspiration of the Gospel as the Qur’an claims.

In line with the divine teachings of their sacred Scriptures, Christians are not required to pray towards a specific direction. In 2 Corinthians 4:18, the Bible commands Christians to keep their “eyes not on the things seen, but on the things unseen. For the things seen are temporary, but the things unseen are everlasting.” Thus, instead of directing their prayers with reverence towards any physical object or place, Christians are taught to direct their prayers towards their Creator. And because of this profound teaching in the Bible, Christians are not restricted to face a certain direction during their prayers. Furthermore, the divine nature of the true Christian faith rules out the association of any physically perceivable object as a focal point for Christians to worship their God. This is potentially idolatrous.

2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we are walking by faith, not by sight.”

The worship of Christians is not based on any external ritualistic form of veneration. Rather, it is a superlative form of devotion that is governed by the inner spiritual reverence of the person towards his Creator. Can true godliness be attained by just the bodily turning to the right or left? Is not the turning of the heart towards God in righteousness that counts with Him? Jesus firmly established the Christian position in the Gospel of John:

John 4:19-24: The (Samaritan) woman said to him: “Sir, I see that you are a prophet. Our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, but you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where people must worship.” Jesus said to her: “Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you people worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, because salvation began with the Jews. Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. For indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. God is a Spirit and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”

According to the teachings of Jesus, it is futile to direct our prayers towards any physical objects or places of reverence, even if it means a city such as Jerusalem. Christians were never taught to pray facing any physical object, place or city. Thus, Christians were never required to face a specific direction while praying. If Christians had to face a certain direction in order to pray, it will be an insult to the supremacy of their God. Christians do not need a Qiblah. Jehovah, the God whom they worship, will be able to listen and accept the prayers of his faithful servants from whatever directions such prayers are expressed towards Him. It is not the direction of our prayers that matters to Jehovah but the trueness of our heart:

Psalms 145:18: Jehovah is near to all those calling on him. To all who call on him in truth.

The Qur’an made an enormous mistake when it spoke about the Qiblah of the Christians. We challenge Muslim apologists to produce a single verse from the Bible that speaks about the Qiblah of the Christians. This is actually a double error in the Qur’an. In the first place, the Qur’an made an obvious error in stating that Christians face a specific direction while praying. Secondly, the Qur’an failed to understand that it is ethically and morally wrong for a Christian to face a specific object while praying as Muslims do. This is because it is potentially idolatrous. Such an act does not harmonize with the spirit directed teachings of the Holy Bible.

From the very beginning, Jehovah God warned the Israelites from falling prey to this subtle form of idolatry. It is subtle because those who engage in this form of worship will deny–just as Muslims do today–that they are actually rendering worship to the object of reverence. Muslims cannot see it as an act of idolatry. Muslims claim that though they pray facing that object of reverence, their minds and prayers are actually directed towards Allah. Therefore, the object of reverence has no bearing whatsoever in their worship of Allah. If this claim is true, then there is absolutely no reason to face that object of reverence since it supposedly has no bearing whatsoever in their worship of Allah. In other words, their purpose of facing that object of reverence is in reality pointless. However, this argument does not change the fact that praying towards an object is potentially idolatrous. Consider now a parallel situation.

The Muslim argument is that while they pray facing the object of reverence, their minds and prayers are actually directed towards Allah. Therefore, they reason it is not actually an act of idolatry. The Muslim argument can be likened to that of a man who justifies his adulterous acts by claiming that he was only thinking of his wife while he was committing that sinful act. Does his reasoning absolve him of the sinful act? Adultery is adultery no matter where you direct your thoughts during that sinful act. And idolatry is idolatry no matter where you direct your thoughts while performing the idolatrous act.

Another claim that Muslims conjure up is that the purpose of the Qiblah is to promote unity. It is said that the entire Muslim world is unified by the requirement to face a single focal point while praying. However, contrary to the claims made by Muslims, unity is not attained by facing a single direction but by love. The fact that Muslims kill and slaughter one another–while facing a single Qiblah–is proof of this truth. Both Sunni and Shia Muslims share the same Qiblah. Why then are they slaughtering one another? The Islamic divide is actually much more serious than most Muslims are willing to admit.

Well, why are Muslims then commanded in the Qur’an to face that object of reverence whenever they approach Allah in prayer? Why is it mandatory for them to do so? Contrary to the claim of Muslims, that object of reverence is significant in their form of worship. It is an essential component in their sacred service to Allah. Thus, it is indisputably an act of idolatry.

And we must not overlook the fact that during the Hajj, Muslims actually touch and kiss the Black Stone with reverence–the focus of the direction of their prayers. That the Black Stone is truly the focus of their prayers can clearly be seen by the fact that the entire ritual of the Hajj centers on this idol in the shape of a Black Stone. And Muslims fondly kiss the Black Stone with reverence in their heart. This is purely an act of idolatry no matter what excuses Muslims give. Any reverence given to an object is idolatry. Why kiss a stone if your mind is on Allah?

Centuries before the arrival of Islam, Jehovah God warned the nation of Israel to avoid this subtle entrapment of Satan. An entrapment that Islam, centuries later, failed to escape. Read the warnings of Jehovah:

Leviticus 26:1: “Do not make for yourselves worthless idols. You must not erect for yourselves a carved statue or a sacred pillar and you must not put a stone as a sacred showpiece in your land to bow down toward it. I am Jehovah your God.”

Jehovah God told the Israelites not to bow down to any images. And that includes images in the form of a stone:

Exodus 20:4-5: “You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth. You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them, because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion.”

1 Corinthians 10:14: Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.

There was never and there will never be a Qiblah for Christians. Christians can pray to their God from anywhere, from any direction, in any respectable position, at any time of the day or night and still be confident that their beloved God would listen to them. To insist that you have to face a specific direction or an object to talk to God is an insult to his Almightiness.

Well, there is a disagreement now between the teachings of the Bible and the teachings of the Qur’an. So, what should Christians do now? Should they listen to the suggestion of these Muslim apologists and abandon the profound teachings of the Holy Bible? Should they, in imitation of Muslims, start looking for a pagan sacred stone to face while praying? Would it not be wise for them to follow the divine teachings of the Bible and worship their God with spirit and truth? While we are on this subject, we would like these Muslim apologists to enlighten us on the following questions:

  • Since when did Christians have a Qiblah?
  • What is the Qiblah of the Christians?
  • Where are Christians supposed to face while praying?
  • If Allah is truly the one who inspired the writings of the Gospel as the Qur’an claims, then why did he not know that there is no Qiblah in Christianity?

What vital lessons can sincere Muslims learn from this article? The Qur’an should never contradict the teachings of the Holy Bible. As the following Qur’anic verse testifies, the Qur’an should never evaluate the Book that evaluates it:

Surah 10:94: So if you are in doubt, (O Muhammad), about that which We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you. (Sahih International)

And Allah warns the Muslim apologists:

Surah 29:46: And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians). (Hilali-Khan)

Thus, we can clearly see that the suggestions of Muslim apologists to reject the teachings of the Bible that are in conflict with the Qur’an are not only baseless but it can also lead to embarrassment for Muslims. True Christians believe and accept the entire Bible as the authentic “Word of God.

1 Thessalonians 2:13: “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God’s message, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the Word of God.”

And it will be extremely wise for Muslims to do the same. We would like to conclude this article by raising the following thought-provoking questions:

  • Why must the prayers of the Muslims be directed towards the pre-Islamic pagan shrine in order to reach the ears of Allah?
  • Since the Blackstone was venerated by the pagans during pre-Islamic days, why are Muslims all over the world commanded to face the same pagan Blackstone whenever they pray?
  • If you say it to unify Muslims, why are there hundreds of Muslim sects in Islam?
  • Why are these Islamic sects, who while praying unitedly in the same direction, still fighting and killing each other, even within the same sect?
  • The Sunnis and the Shias face the same direction when they pray, why are they then not united?

We hope this article will move sincere Muslims to seek the Truth about the true God.

MUHAMMAD’S MORBID FEAR OF NATURAL PHENOMENON

MUHAMMAD’S MORBID FEAR OF NATURAL PHENOMENON

An eclipse of the sun is a normal phenomenon caused by the natural movement of the heavenly bodies. It is a predictable and expected occurrence. However, superstitious pagans were terrified whenever the sun or moon eclipsed. They viewed it as a bad omen portending the occurrence of something evil. Well, how did Muhammad react during the occurrences of the eclipse of the sun?

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 18, Number 167:

Narrated Abu Musa: The sun eclipsed and the Prophet got up, being afraid that it might be the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment). He went to the Mosque and offered the prayer with the longest Qiyam, bowing and prostration that I had ever seen him doing. Then he said, “These signs which Allah sends do not occur because of the life or death of somebody, but Allah makes His worshipers afraid by them. So when you see anything thereof, proceed to remember Allah, invoke Him and ask for His forgiveness.”

A true prophet would know the truth about such things. He would know that a solar eclipse is just natural phenomenon. It should not instill any sort of fear or concern for one claiming to be a prophet of God. However, not only was Muhammad terrified but he was also strongly mistaken. He thought that it was the arrival of the “Day of Judgment.” He was off-mark by more than fourteen hundred years and counting. Like the superstitious pagans, he likewise viewed it as a sign of divine anger. He told his followers, “So when you see anything thereof, proceed to remember Allah, invoke Him and ask for His forgiveness.”

Since an eclipse is nothing but an ordinary phenomenon that occurs at regular intervals when the moon comes between the sun and the earth, why did Muhammad pray fearfully when it does not pose any danger? Why did he instruct his followers to seek forgiveness for the occurrence of something that by comparison is as natural as the setting of the sun? Muslims should be deeply concerned as to why their Prophet became so terrified at the arrival of the “Day of Judgment.” If he is truly a prophet of God should not he welcome it? After all, is it not true that the “Day of Judgment” is a day when Allah rewards his faithful servants? Can Muslims really trust a prophet who fears for his life at the thought of the arrival of the “Day of Judgment”?

In total contrast, after giving the signs that would signify the approach of the end times, Jesus told his disciples to lift up their heads in joyful expectation of their deliverance:

Luke 21:28: “But when these things begin take place, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is drawing near.”

True worshippers welcome the “Day of Judgment” with eagerness. Not only Muhammad feared the eclipse of the sun, but he was totally wrong as to what causes this phenomenon.

Tabari I:236: “When the sun rises upon its chariot from one of those springs it is accompanied by 360 angels with outspread wings…. When Allah wishes to test the sun and the moon, showing His servants a sign and thereby getting them to obey, the sun tumbles from the chariot and falls into the deep end of that ocean. When Allah wants to increase the significance of the sign and frighten His servants severely, all of the sun falls and nothing of it remains in the chariot. That is a total eclipse of the sun. It is a misfortune for the sun.”

Total absurdity!

MUHAMMAD’S FEAR OF DARK CLOUDS AND WIND

Sahih Muslim, Book 004, Number 1963:

‘Aisha, the wife of the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him), reported: I never saw Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) laugh to such an extent that I could see his uvula – whereas he used to smile only – and when he saw dark clouds or wind, (the signs of fear) were depicted on his face. I said: Messenger of Allah, I find people being happy when they face the dark cloud in the hope that it would bring rain, but I find that when you see that (the cloud) there is an anxiety on your face. He said: ‘Aisha, I am afraid that there may be a calamity in it, for a people was afflicted with wind, when the people saw the calamity they said: “It is a cloud which would give us rain” (Qur’an 46:24).

The account regarding the people who were afflicted by the wind is found in Surah 46:24:

Then, when they saw the (Penalty in the shape of) a cloud traversing the sky, coming to meet their valleys, they said, “This cloud will give us rain!” “Nay, it is the (Calamity) ye were asking to be hastened! – A wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty!” (Yusuf Ali)

The above Qur’anic verse refers to an incident that is believed to have happened long before the time of Muhammad. The people of Ad were supposed to have disobeyed the prophet sent by Allah. As a result, Allah sent “a wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty” to punish them. Now, coming to Muhammad, we are told that “when Muhammad saw dark clouds or wind, the signs of fear were depicted on his face. He said: ‘Aisha, I am afraid that there may be a calamity in it.”

Muslims must seriously consider why their Prophet was afraid. Is it not because he feared that the calamity which fell upon the people of Ad might also happen to him? Why did he entertain such fearful thoughts that Allah might also execute him with a similar punishment? The Hadith states that “fear” and “anxiety” were clearly visible on his face. If the Prophet of Islam himself is unsure of his standing with Allah, what guarantee do ordinary Muslims have regarding their salvation in Islam? Additionally, the Qur’an claims that King Solomon had control over the wind (Surah 21:81), yet we are told that Allah’s greatest and final Prophet had a morbid fear of it.

Now, please read the following account regarding Jesus Christ:

Matthew 8:23-27: And when Jesus got aboard a boat, his disciples followed him. Now, look! A great agitation arose in the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; he, however, was sleeping. And they came and woke him up, saying: “Lord, save us, we are about to perish!” But he said to them: “Why are you fainthearted, you with little faith?” Then, getting up, he rebuked the winds and the sea, and a great calm set in. So the men became amazed and said: “What sort of person is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”

As for Muhammad, he displayed an unnatural fear of ordinary natural occurrences. He feared both the forces of nature and the judgments of Allah. Like the pagans, Muhammad was also steeped in superstitious beliefs.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 72, Hadith Number 747:

Narrated By Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “If you want to put on your shoes, put on the right shoe first; and if you want to take them off, take the left one first. Let the right shoe be the first to be put on and the last to be taken off.”

Why? What divine difference would this make?

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 4, Number 162:

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever performs ablution should clean his nose with water by putting the water in it and then blowing it out, and whoever cleans his private parts with stones should do it with odd number of stones.”

Why must it be odd number of stones? Did Muhammad believe in numerology just like the pagans? Numerology is the science of the occult. And it is associated with astrology and divination. Although Muslims pride themselves that Islam is a mature Abrahamic religion that has no place for pagan superstition, the truth is that their Prophet was an extremely superstitious man. Fear of the unknown and superstition influenced many of his teachings. Muhammad held on to the beliefs of the pre-Islamic pagans.

Islam stands and falls on the character of this man. And he certainly falls short of the divine requirements expected of a true prophet. Can such a man really be a prophet of the true God? Can Muslims trust this man with their eternal salvation? We do not think so.

The Pagan Roots of Idolatry in Islam

THE PAGAN ROOTS OF IDOLATRY IN ISLAM

Muslims worship a deity called Allah. And Muslims boldly claim that before the advent of Islam, Allah manifested himself as the God of the Bible. The claim of continuity from the recognized faith of Judaism and Christianity was essential for Muhammad to build credibility to his new found religion. For if Allah is accredited as the originator of the previous divine revelations, then Islam is logically the next step in the religion of Abraham, Moses and Jesus.

Well, was Allah the God of the Bible or was he a pagan deity in Arabia during pre- Islamic times? The answer to this question is vital especially today with so much confusion surrounding the religion of Islam. If the Muslim claim is true, then we should accept Islam as a true religion. But, on the other hand, if it can be proven that Allah was a pre-Islamic pagan deity, then Islam must be rejected for what it truly is – a pagan religion. And Muslims must find the courage to leave Islam. Let us begin our analysis of Islam in the light of its very own sources.

THE KA’BA

A well-known feature of Islam is that most of its rites were adopted from the pagan Arabian rituals of Muhammad’s time. Before the advent of Islam, the Ka’ba has been an important pagan shrine in Mecca. Today the Ka’ba is the center of the Islamic world and every Muslim’s prayer is directed towards it. Moreover, most of the religious traditions of Islam in connection with the Hajj are also pagan in origin. The fact that the Ka’ba was a pagan shrine is acknowledged in numerous authentic sources of Islam:

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 43, Number 658:

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Masud: The Prophet entered Mecca and (at that time) there were three hundred-and-sixty idols around the Ka’aba.

Muhammad’s reverential attachment to the Black Stone was so strong that he could not classify it with the other idols of the Ka’ba. That is why years later when the Muslims conquered Mecca, Muhammad destroyed all the other idols but spared the Black Stone. And even before the pagan idols were destroyed, Muhammad had an innate desire to pray facing the Ka’ba where the Black Stone, the primary object of reverence, is embedded in the walls of the Ka’ba.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 39:

Narrated By Al-Bara’ (bin ‘Azib): When the Prophet came to Medina, he stayed first with his grandfathers or maternal uncles from Ansar. He offered his prayers facing Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem) for sixteen or seventeen months, but he wished that he could pray facing the Ka’ba (at Mecca).

And Allah revealed the following Qur’anic verse:

Surah 2:144: “We see the turning of thy face for guidance to the heavens: now shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction.” (Yusuf Ali)

Why did Muhammad express a desire to pray facing the Ka’ba while it was still a pagan shrine? At the time when Surah 2:144 was revealed, the Ka’ba was still a pagan temple housing three hundred-and-sixty idols.” And why would Allah permit his Prophet to bow towards the Ka’ba while it was still polluted with the idols of the pagans? The command given in the Qur’an to pray towards the Ka’ba predates by years the conquest of Mecca. Those idols were destroyed only after the conquest of Mecca. Thus, during all those intervening years, between the time the Qiblah was changed towards the Ka’ba and the conquest of Mecca, whenever Muhammad faced the Ka’ba to pray, the Ka’ba remained a shrine of idol-worship.

This is not an insignificant matter in terms of worship. Why did not Allah command Muhammad to wait until the removal of those idols? Why did Allah give in to the blasphemous desire of one man? And as a result, the early Muslims were now commanded to pray in the direction of the pagan idols during all those intervening years. Why did Allah contradict himself? Did not he say, To Allah belongs the East and the West”? Why, then must the prayers of the Muslims be directed towards the pagan shrine in order to reach the ears of Allah?

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 8, Number 392:

Narrated Bara’ bin ‘Azib: Allah’s Apostle prayed facing Baitul-Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months but he loved to face the Ka’ba (at Mecca) so Allah revealed: “Verily, We have seen the turning of your face to the heaven!” (Surah 2 Al-Baqarah 144) So the Prophet faced the Ka’ba and the fools amongst the people namely “the Jews” said, “What has turned them from their Qibla (Bait-ul-Maqdis) which they formerly observed” (Allah revealed): “Say: ‘To Allah belongs the East and the West. He guides whom he will to a straight path’.” (Surah 2 Al-Baqarah 142).

Notice also the commanding tone of Allah:

Surah 2:144: “Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction.”

The following Hadith clearly shows that the idols were destroyed only after the conquest of Mecca which took place several years later after the Qiblah was changed towards the Ka’ba.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 583:

Narrated By Abdullah: When the Prophet entered Mecca on the day of the Conquest, there were 360 idols around the Ka’ba.

Now we will consider another serious problem in Islam. Give careful consideration to the words of Allah in the following Qur’anic verse:

Surah 2:125: “And when We made the House (at Mecca) a resort for mankind and sanctuary, (saying): Take as your place of worship the place where Abraham stood (to pray). And We imposed a duty upon Abraham and Ishmael, (saying): Purify My house for those who go around and those who meditate therein and those who bow down and prostrate themselves (in worship).” (Pickthall)

The “We” in the above Qur’anic verse refers to Allah. According to Islam, Allah is the builder of the original Ka’ba long before the time of Abraham. It was supposedly restructured later by Abraham and Ishmael. The Ka’ba also known as “Baitullah” means “House of Allah.” Now, how did the “House of Allah” which was “made by Allah” become a Pagan Temple housing “360 idols”? How can a House of God turn into a pagan Temple of Idols? How is it ever possible for this to occur to the most sacred place of worship of Allah? How can Allah allow this to happen? If the Ka’ba was the original “House of Allah” as the Qur’an claims, then there is absolutely no logical or theological reason for it to become a Pagan Temple. Can you now trust Allah when he has shown himself to be absolutely powerless against the demonizing of his most holy shrine here on earth?

THE BLACK STONE

Muhammad destroyed the rest of the idols at the conquest of Mecca but left the pre-eminent idol of the Ka’ba – the Black Stone – untouched. Why? It was simply due to his deep-rooted reverence brought on by years of submission to the pagan practice of stone worship. He not only had to leave the Black Stone unharmed to represent Islam but he also kissed it to show his affection for the pagan stone. The Black Stone that was sacred to the pagans became sacred to the Muslims. And today Muslims revere it. The kiss that the pious Muslim pilgrims bestow on the Black Stone is a survival of an age old pagan practice, which was common in ancient Arabia.

Thus, the Black Stone which was venerated by the Arab pagans was transformed from a pagan shrine to the focus of the Muslim pilgrimage. Built into the Eastern corner of the Ka’ba, the Black Stone, which had been an object of worship for centuries before the time of Muhammad, became the central shrine of Islam. Muslims touch and kiss the Black Stone during Hajj, whereas non-Muslims are strictly forbidden to go anywhere near it.

In his book, The Life of Muhammad, the Egyptian writer, Muhammad Husayn Haykal, who relies heavily on the scholarly works of Ibn Hisham, admitted to the following facts:

In fact, the Arabs venerated these stones so much that not only did they worship the black stone in the Ka’bah, but also they would take one of the stones of the Ka’bah as a holy object in their travels, praying to it and asking it to bless every move they made. (p. 30)

Muhammad began and ended up with a pagan religion with the only difference being that he repackaged it in a monotheistic framework. The fact that many of the rituals performed in the name of Allah are connected to pagan worship shows that Islam was conceived in idolatry. Such practices are consistent with pre-Islamic pagan rituals involving the Ka’ba. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would never send a Black Stone to ensnare his followers to commit idolatry. If God abhors even the bowing of his worshippers towards the living sun that was created by him, do you think he will command his worshippers to bow down towards a dead Black Stone? While Christians can clearly see this as absolute idolatry, Islam is blind to this abomination.

The Holy Bible clearly states:

Deuteronomy 4:19: “You must not raise your eyes to the heavens and indeed see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the army of the heavens, and actually get seduced and bow down to them.”

Though Muslims deny that the Black Stone is an idol and insist that their prayers are directed to Allah alone, in actual practice the Black Stone is treated with the same reverence that pagans show to their idols. Islam’s denial of its idolatrous worship of the Black Stone can be likened to a man who pleads innocence for his adulterous act by saying that he had only his wife on his mind while performing the illicit sexual act. The justification for the veneration of a dead stone – especially to the extent of bowing down and kissing it – can only be identified with a primitive pagan idolatry practice than with the true spirit of monotheistic worship.

Additionally, Muhammad taught that the Black Stone will testify favorably on the “Day Of Judgment” in behalf of those who kissed it. Islam also teaches that sins could be forgiven for those who kiss and touch the Black Stone.

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 961; Ibn Maajah, 2944:

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said concerning the Stone: “By Allah, Allah will bring it forth on the Day of Resurrection, and it will have two eyes with which it will see and a tongue with which it will speak, and it will testify in favour of those who touched it in sincerity.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 959:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Touching them both (the Black Stone and al-Rukn al-Yamani) is an expiation for sins.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 877; Ahmad, 2792:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When the Black Stone came down from Paradise, it was whiter than milk, but the sins of the sons of Adam made it black.”

Thus, it can be seen that Muslims blatantly lie to us when they say that the Black Stone is just a focal point for them to pray for the sake of unity. In reality, it means much more than they are willing to admit to us. Is it not idolatrous to believe that sins can be forgiven by kissing a mere stone? Muslims strongly reject the atoning value of the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Ironically, these very same Muslims are willing to believe that a dead stone can accomplish the very objective that they deny Jesus could do.

All Muslims are required to bow towards the Black Stone everyday, whenever they pray. They are forbidden to face any other object or direction. For Muslims to face any other direction would be a violation of the commandment of Allah. Allah’s commandment clearly states:

Surah 2:144: “Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction.”

Thus, according to the teachings of the Qur’an, Muslims cannot pray to Allah without facing the Ka’ba. When a Muslim makes the Hajj, or runs between the hills, or bestows a kiss on the Black Stone, he is performing the rituals of the pagans – rituals that are deeply rooted in pagan superstition. And Muhammad sanctioned and incorporated these pagan practices into Islam. Thus, the poison remains the same, only the labels are deviously changed by Allah and Muhammad. Accordingly, paganism became an integral part of Islam. Consider now the following additional evidences:

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 23:

Narrated By ‘Asim bin Sulaiman: I asked Anas bin Malik about Safa and Marwa (i.e. two mountains at Mecca). Anas replied, “We used to consider (i.e. going around) them a custom of the Pre-Islamic period of Ignorance, so when Islam came, we gave up going around them. Then Allah revealed, ‘Verily, Safa and Marwa (i.e. two mountains at Mecca) are among the Symbols of Allah. So it is not harmful of those who perform the Hajj of the House (of Allah) or perform the Umra to ambulate (Tawaf) between them.’” (Surah 2:158) [End of Quote]

Surah 2:158: “Lo! (the mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the indications of Allah. It is therefore no sin for him who is on pilgrimage to the House (of Allah) or visiteth it, to go around them (as the pagan custom is).” (Pickthall)

How can the very same two mountains that were sacred to the pagans become the “Symbols of Allah” all of a sudden after the Muslim conquest of Mecca? Moreover, how is it that the very same pagan ritual of running between the two hills is also retained in Islam? Additionally, why was the Arab pagan ritual of going around the Ka’ba seven times, also retained in Islam?

STRIKING SIMILARITIES

There are so many striking similarities between the rites of Hinduism and Islam that it is virtually impossible to dismiss them as mere coincidences. Let us consider some of them.

(1) During the Islamic ritual of Tawaf, Muslims circumnavigate the Ka’ba seven times. This ritual is the exact imitation of the Hindu worshippers of Shiva who also walk around the symbol of Shiva seven times. Is it not amazing that both the worshippers of Shiva and the worshippers of Allah observe a rite in which they walk around their object of reverence seven times?

(2) In both these rituals, Hindus and Muslims alike utter religious phrases repeatedly during the circumnavigation.

(3) Moreover, both Hindu and Muslim male devotees are required to shave their heads during their pilgrimage.

(4) Additionally, male Muslim pilgrims are required to dress in a garment consisting of two seamless sheets of white cloth. Again, this costume is the exact imitation of their Hindu counterparts who also dress in a type seamless garment that is known as dhoti during their pilgrimage.

(5) In Islam, the Black Stone is held sacred by Muslims. The symbol of Shiva is also a Black Stone. Why are the objects of reverence of both the worshippers of Shiva and Muslims Black Stones?

(6) Muslims drink water from the Well of Zamzam during their sacred rites of the Hajj. This is the exact imitation of the Hindus who also drink water from the Ganga River as part of the sacred rites in their worship of Shiva.

(7) The Crescent moon is associated with the Hindu deity Shiva. In every Hindu portrayal of Shiva, the Crescent moon is always painted across his forehead. Is it a coincidence that the Crescent moon is also a symbol of Islam?

(8) In every portrayal of Shiva, there is always a depiction of a snake coiled around his neck. Islamic sources confirm that the Ka’ba was once guarded by a snake during pre-Islamic times. And these same sources state that it was Allah who sent the snake to guard the pagan treasures of the Ka’ba.

Tarikh Makka by Al-Azraqi:

From that day Allah sent a snake to guard the Ka’bah. The snake lived in the well guarding the gifts of the Ka’bah for over 500 years. Exposed to the wearing factors of nature the walls of the Ka’bah at the time of Quraish (slightly before the time Prophet  received Prophethood) had become weak and part of the covering had also burnt, thus the Quraish decided to rebuild the Ka’bah. However, the snake prevented them from demolishing the Holy Ka’bah every time they tried. Finally they stood at the Place of Ibrahim and prayed, “Oh Allah if you are happy in its rebuilding then make it possible and take care of this snake.” Allah sent an eagle which took the snake towards Ajyaad. This snake is referred to in the forth opinion.”

At the time when the Quraish tribe wanted to rebuild the Ka’ba, it was a pagan shrine housing 360 idols. As the account itself states, this event occurred before the time of Muhammad’s calling as a prophet of Allah. Before the arrival of Islam, the Quraish tribe were all pagans who worshipped a pantheon of idol-gods. And Allah was one of them. Therefore, it should not surprise us to find the pagans praying to Allah and entreating him: “Oh Allah if you are happy in its rebuilding then make it possible and take care of this snake.” And it should not surprise us to find Allah answering their prayers by transferring the snake. The account also states that it was Allah who initially sent this snake to guard the treasures of the Ka’ba while it was still a pagan temple. We would like to ask the Muslims:

  • Why was Allah happy to see the restoration of the Ka’ba when it served as a pagan temple for the idol-worshipping pagans?
  • Why did Allah answer the prayers of the pagans by transferring the snake?
  • Does not the fact the pagans prayed to Allah means that he was their god?
  • Why do both the pagans and the Muslims share the same Allah?
  • Does not this tell us that Allah is unmistakably a pagan deity?
  • Why did Allah send a snake to guard the pagan treasures of the Ka’ba?
  • Why is a snake associated with both Allah and Shiva?
  • If you find a place of worship being guarded by a snake today, with which religion would you associate it?
  • Would you associate it with the religion of the true God or with paganism?
  • Do not the evidences show that Islam is an offshoot of paganism?
  • Can Islam then be associated with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?

Christians do not practice the ritual of circumnavigation to please their God. Ironically, Muslims accuse Hinduism of paganism and idolatry. There are far too many similarities between Islam and Paganism for it to be a religion of the true God. Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would never incorporate the practices of the pagan nations. He would never permit the pagan practices of the nations to be a part of his sacred services for his worshippers to follow. But Allah did.

2 Corinthians 6:14-17: Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness. Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what portion does a faithful person have with an unbeliever? And what agreement does God’s temple have with idols? For we are a temple of a living God. Just as God said: “I shall reside among them and walk among them, and I shall be their God, and they will be my people.” “Therefore get out from among them and separate yourselves. Quit touching the unclean thing and I will take you in,” says Jehovah.

THE CAUSE FOR IDOLATRY IN ISLAM

No matter how hard Muslims try to justify, it does not change the fact that Islam is steeped in idolatry. The proof is everywhere. It may surprise Muslims to know that Umar, the 2nd Caliph of Islam, had reservations about kissing the pagan Black Stone.

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 26, Number 675:

Narrated by Zaid bin Aslam: From his father who said: “Umar bin Al-Khattab addressed the Corner (Black Stone) saying, ‘By Allah! I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you.’ Then he kissed it.”

This is a very revealing statement coming from one who used to be a pagan. Umar’s conversion to monotheism was so absolute that he was able to make the above observation while his Prophet was actually venerating a pagan idol. The reason behind Umar’s reluctance in kissing the Black Stone was that the pagan Arabs also performed this same ritual. Sadly, Caliph Umar venerated Muhammad and this eventually led him to venerate the pagan idol.

Sheikh Sha’rawi, one of Egypt’s renowned scholars declared in Legal Opinions, pt. 3, p. 167:

“The kissing of the meteorite is a firm practice in Islamic law because Muhammad did it. You must not ask about the wisdom behind that because this rite is (an expression) of worship in spite of the obscurity of its wisdom.”

The single most important reason for kissing the Black Stone in Islam is that “Muhammad did it.”

Ibn `Umar said: “Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) faced the Black Stone, touched it, and then placed his lips on it and wept for a long time.” Likewise, `Umar also wept for a long time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘O `Umar, this is the place where one should shed tears.”’ (Reported by Al-Hakim who considers it a sound Hadith with a sound chain of authorities) Source: IslamOnline.

Muhammad touched and kissed the Black stone. He placed his lips on it and wept for a long time.” If this is not idolatry, then what is it? In view of his pagan past, Muhammad needed something tangible that connects him to Allah. Thus, he submitted to idolatry. That is why he also stated that the Black Stone “is the place where one should shed tears.” And Umar gave in to blind allegiance. What Muslims failed to take into consideration is that kissing and caressing stone objects were an integral part of the worship that the Arab pagans rendered to their idols.

Like Umar, many Muslims also blindly follow Muhammad in their veneration of this pagan idol. Historically, Muslims cannot deny the fact that the Black Stone was one among the many stones and idols venerated at the Ka’ba by the pre-Islamic pagans. The Black Stone was kissed during pre-Islamic pagan worship and it is this same stone that Muslims are kissing today when they visit Mecca. Muslims are kissing a stone that was previously used in idolatry. Muslims have no reasons to justify this act of idolatry other than the reason it was done by Muhammad. What divine knowledge or spiritual experience can come from venerating an inanimate object which admittedly is a simple meteorite?

Muslims even go so far as to believe that touching or kissing the Black Stone has a profound impact on them and it is supposed to count in their favor on the Islamic Judgment Day. Stoning Satan is also part of the hajj practice. In this ritual, a Muslim gathers seven pebbles and throws them at a pillar of stone that signifies his defiance of the Devil. One cannot help but be amazed at this act of great stupidity. Muslims faithfully kiss one stone as a sacred service to Allah while stoning another stone as a representation of the Devil. And this is Islam for you.

A WARNING TO HEED

The first biography of Muhammad was written by Ibn Ishaq (704 C.E. – 767 C.E.). This biography is known as Sirat Rasul Allah.” In p. 99, we find an interesting account of an event that took place during the pre-Islamic days when the pagans were celebrating their festival:

“The Coreish were once gathered together during their Eid beside one of their idols, slaying sacrifices, praying and making circuits around it, as they used to do at this festival every year. Just then four friends stood apart, and spoke secretly to one another in righteous terms. These were Waraca, Obeidallah grandson of Abdul Mutalib. Othman and Zeid ibn Amr.

They said: – ‘By the Lord! Our people have nothing left of the faith of Abraham. What is this stone that we should encircle it? It can neither hear nor speak, neither hurt nor help. O our people! Look out for your souls, for by the Lord you are altogether wanting.’ Then they separated, and departed into various lands to find out the true faith of Abraham.

Waraca embraced the Christian religion, and studying the books of its people, became fixed in their faith. Obeidallah…, emigrated to Abyssinia along with his wife Omm Habibah…, There, however, he afterwards became a Christian…, Now as to Othman, he repaired to the court of the Emperor of Byzantium, where he obtained a high rank and embraced the Christian faith.” (Siratu’l Rasool vss. 143-144 p. 99)

Out of the four friends, three of them eventually became Christians. They were Waraca, Obeidallah and Othman. These seekers of truth knew that the practices of the Quraysh, which Islam later incorporated in its theology, do not belong to the faith of Abraham. They recognized it was sheer idolatry.

One of the warnings of Jehovah that they most likely would have come across in their study of the Bible is the text in Leviticus 26:1. This text has a direct bearing on the subject at hand. Centuries earlier before the arrival of Islam, Jehovah God lovingly warned the Israelites to avoid a subtle entrapment of Satan. Centuries later, Islam failed to escape this entrapment of Satan. The Holy Bible strongly warns:

Leviticus 26:1: “Do not make for yourselves worthless idols. You must not erect for yourselves a carved statue or a sacred pillar and you must not put a stone as a sacred showpiece in your land to bow down toward it. I am Jehovah your God.”

Can any warning be clearer than this? Either it is acceptable to bow towards a stone or it is not. Both cannot be true.  This is a very serious matter because it demonstrates that either Allah or Jehovah is the true God. The eternal salvation of every single Muslim lies in the hands of only one of them. Think very carefully! Would a Holy God encourage his worshippers to continue in the sin of idolatry of the pagans?

It is commonly taught that Judaism, Christianity and Islam are the three great monotheistic religions in the world. And many a time it is implied that the adherents of these three religions pray to the same God. Nothing could be further from the truth than this. Islam is heathenism in monotheistic form. There is no place for any form of idolatry, whatsoever, in Christianity.

1 John 5:21: “Guard yourselves from idols.”

This gives us a legitimate reason to reject Islam.
